BENZEMA FALLS BEHIND IN PICHICHI RACE
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has fallen behind in the race to win the Pichichi this season. The Pichichi Award is for the highest goalscorer in the Spanish La Liga. Karim Benzema scored eight goals in his first 13 league games in the Spanish La Liga this term but he has failed to find the back of the net in any of his last three matches in the league and that has seen him fall further behind in the Pichichi race.
His last goal came during the 2-0 win over Granada at home towards the end of last month. Since the Granada game, Karim Benzema has failed to score in games against Elche, Celta Vigo and Osasuna.
Karim Benzema has eight goals in 16 league outings in the Spanish top flight this season and he has a total goal tally of 13 goals and five assists in 22 games in all competitions. Five players have scored more than Karim Benzema in the league this season. Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyriand Celta Vigo player Iago Aspas have scored nine goals apiece in the league this season and they are above Karim Benzema in the race for the highest goalscorer.
Apart from Iago Aspas and Youssef En-Nesyri, the likes of Gerard Moreno, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi have also scored more than Karim Benzema. Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno has 10 goals for the Yellow Submarines this term. The ex-Barcelona teammates of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have 11 goals apiece in the Spanish La Liga this term. Lionel Messi won the Pichichi Award last season and he’s one of the frontrunners this season after a run of four goals in his last two league games against Athletic Bilbao and Granada. Luis Suarez also has 11 goals in the league after his brace in the 2-1 away win for Atletico Madrid at Eibar last night.
